Coinbase Taps Rob Witoff as CTO Amid AI Shift
Coinbase has appointed Rob Witoff as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO), according to a statement by CEO Brian Armstrong. This move comes as Coinbase shifts towards becoming an AI-centred organisation, with Armstrong describing Witoff as a key figure in making this happen.
A veteran engineer at Coinbase, Witoff has been with the company since 2014 and has watched it grow from a small team working on Heroku to a global platform supporting multiple assets. He expressed his mission as CTO as making Coinbase 'the best place to work in the world.'
The appointment coincides with Coinbase's recent organisational reshuffle, which included the departure of 700 employees and a reduction in management layers. This move is seen as a push towards both the AI shift and organisational overhaul.
