Coinbase Taps Rob Witoff as New CTO Amid AI-Driven Restructuring
Coinbase has appointed Rob Witoff as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO), effective July 28. The decision comes after a significant restructuring effort in May, which saw the company cut approximately 14% of its workforce, or around 700 roles.
Witoff brings extensive experience to the role, having first joined Coinbase in 2014 and working there until 2017. He then co-founded institutional crypto custody company Unit 410, which was later acquired by Coinbase.
In his latest stint at Coinbase, Witoff served as head of platform from December 2024. In this capacity, he played a key role in implementing AI-assisted workflows across the company.
