Coinbase Targets Stablecoin Payments as Next Big Growth Driver
Coinbase Global Inc., the largest US cryptocurrency exchange, is shifting its focus towards stablecoin payments as a key growth engine. According to CEO Brian Armstrong, the company aims to integrate with banks, fintechs, and other companies to move more payment activity into stablecoins.
The stablecoin market is currently valued at $300 billion, but Armstrong believes it will grow tenfold by 2030. Stablecoins are digital assets that are pegged to fiat currencies, such as the US dollar, allowing for faster and cheaper cross-border transactions compared to traditional payment rails.
Coinbase's move into stablecoin payments is part of its broader strategy to expand its digital-asset business beyond trading. By leveraging the growing demand for stablecoins, the company hopes to tap into a new revenue stream and drive growth in the coming years.
