Coinbase Thrives Without Crypto Bull Run as Prediction Markets Soar
Coinbase's latest quarterly results show that it is building a business less reliant on crypto bull markets. The company reported $1.22 billion in revenue for Q2 2026, down 14% from the previous quarter and 19% from a year earlier.
Weaker market conditions weighed on trading activity, with transaction revenue falling 21% to $599 million. However, Coinbase's diversification strategy provided a cushion. Subscription and services revenue reached $555 million, making up 48% of net revenue.
Prediction markets emerged as one of Coinbase's fastest-growing revenue streams, jumping 106% quarter over quarter. The company credits new market launches, product improvements, and a better user interface for the growth. Strong demand for sports-related contracts during the NBA playoffs and FIFA World Cup also contributed to the increase.
Coinbase plans to expand its prediction markets with 'Combos,' which let users combine multiple predictions into a single trade. The company is also developing a prosumer toolkit to improve liquidity and user engagement.
