Coinbase Trading Volume Surges, But Revenue Slumps Amid Market Volatility

Share

Coinbase Global's quarterly earnings report revealed mixed results for investors.

The company's share of global crypto trading volume grew to 10.3%, marking its third consecutive quarter of expansion, from a 5.6% market share in the third quarter of last year.

However, this growth was overshadowed by declining revenue and a net loss under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) of nearly $360 million, or $1.36 per share.

Coinbase's revenue fell to $1.22 billion, down from the almost $1.5 billion reported in the same quarter last year, marking its third consecutive quarterly decline.

The company's diversification efforts are a key area of focus for investors, with around half of its revenue still dependent on crypto trading. Coinbase has partnerships with companies like Circle Internet Group, which developed and manages the USD Coin stablecoin.

Stablecoins have been more resilient to market volatility than standard cryptos, and Coinbase's stablecoin revenue dipped by only 6% year over year to $292 million.
