Coinbase Unleashes Commission-Free US Stock Trading on UK Users
Coinbase has launched US stock trading for its UK users, allowing them to trade US-listed companies commission-free from their app. The feature was rolled out in stages, starting with a first batch of eligible customers on Thursday, and is expected to reach all UK users soon.
The exchange offers nearly 4,000 US-listed companies for trading, and traders can buy in for as little as £1 thanks to fractional share support. Funding purchases can be done with either GBP or USDC, which can also go directly towards buying stock without conversion.
This move comes after Coinbase received authorization from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in July 2026 to offer investment services beyond crypto for the first time. The approval covers more than just stock trading and clears the way for derivatives, stablecoin payments, savings products, and borrowing, with tokenized real-world assets set to follow.
Coinbase's expansion into regulated stock trading is significant, as it allows UK users to react to US market news and earnings releases outside traditional exchange hours. The rollout also highlights Coinbase's push to become a one-stop-shop for financial services in the UK, offering a range of products including savings accounts and borrowing options.
