Coinbase Unleashes Tokenized Stocks on Base Blockchain
Coinbase has launched tokenized stocks on its Base blockchain, joining other crypto exchanges in bringing equities onchain. The rollout starts with Apple, Nvidia, Meta, and Alphabet, available to eligible investors outside the US.
The tokens are issued under Abu Dhabi Global Market regulation and represent shares held 1:1 with Alpaca, a regulated broker and custodian. Coinbase said more stocks will follow the initial batch.
Tokenization is gathering steam across asset classes, with banks and asset managers moving tens of billions of dollars in US Treasuries, private credit, and investment funds onchain. Citi has projected that tokenized securities could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030.
