Coinbase Unleashes Tokenized Stocks on Base Layer-2 Network
Coinbase has launched tokenized stocks on its Ethereum layer-2 network, Base. Eligible users outside the United States can now hold fractional shares of Apple and Nvidia in self-custody wallets, trade them on Aerodrome, or use them as collateral on Aave.
The tokens represent a direct claim on the underlying share, rather than a derivative tied to its price. Coinbase's B20 token standard processes dividends and stock splits without disrupting DeFi positions.
The initial offering includes fractional shares of Apple and Nvidia, with more stocks and real-world assets expected to be added in the coming weeks.
