Coinbase Unveils AiFi for AI Agent Economy with Over $100M in x402 Transactions
Coinbase has unveiled its financial infrastructure initiative, AiFi, aimed at supporting the growing AI agent economy. The company claims that its x402 payment standard has processed over $100 million in transactions and handles 90% of on-chain agentic stablecoin volume on Base.
AiFi is a platform that enables AI agents to make payments directly without human intervention. It allows businesses to receive USDC from AI agents via the x402 protocol, eliminating the need for traditional checkout methods.
Coinbase is also collaborating with companies like AWS to allow seamless instant payment for services used by AI agents. The company's Coinbase Business is being sold as a payment rails solution for businesses catering to AI agents, offering features such as no original charge-back risk and 3.35% rewards for holding idle USDC.
The launch of AiFi marks a significant step towards building an end-to-end program around financial transactions, stablecoin payments, developer infrastructure, and service discovery specifically tailored for the AI agent economy.
