Coinbase Unveils Lightning-Fast Deribit Engine for Institutional Traders
Coinbase has unveiled an upgraded Deribit engine capable of processing over 100,000 orders per second. The new infrastructure is designed to meet the speed and scale demands of institutional derivatives markets.
The system incorporates a deliberate delay on certain instruments to give liquidity providers more response time and tighten spreads. This 'speed bump' mechanism is expected to result in tighter spreads and greater depth for clients.
All perpetual futures on Deribit will migrate to this new engine by the end of 2026, extending the infrastructure to options and futures. This aims to create a consistent trading experience across both platforms and deepen liquidity globally.
