Coinbase Users Face Delays in Solana Transactions Amid Trump Memecoin Frenzy
Coinbase users have experienced significant delays in Solana transactions due to the launch of memecoins by former President Donald Trump and his wife Melania. The TRUMP token was launched on January 18, followed by the MELANIA token on January 19, causing a surge in activity on the Solana blockchain.
According to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, the exchange had not anticipated such a high level of activity. He stated that the team was working hard to scale the Solana infrastructure to handle the surge in transactions.
The congestion caused by the memecoin launches resulted in delays of up to 15 hours for some users. Despite the congestion, Solana's blockchain remained stable, with no reported outages.
Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz confirmed that the delays were unrelated to the Solana blockchain and were instead due to Coinbase's infrastructure issues.
