Coinbase Warns of Overseas Shift as US Crypto Laws Stall
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has warned that his company may consider moving some of its operations outside the United States if federal cryptocurrency legislation continues to face delays.
Armstrong emphasized that Coinbase prefers to keep its core business in the U.S., but doing so requires a clear legal framework and a predictable regulatory environment, regardless of which party controls the White House.
The lack of clear regulations has already led to capital, talent, and users migrating to jurisdictions with clearer rules, such as countries in Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia that have introduced tailored crypto regulations.
Armstrong noted that the company has invested heavily in compliance and dialogue with U.S. regulators, but the absence of legislation creates long-term uncertainty that makes business planning difficult.
