Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has outlined his vision for Agentic Finance (AiFi), where blockchain technology provides a foundational infrastructure for artificial intelligence. He criticizes crypto startups that have shifted their focus towards AI, calling it a 'zero-sum scarcity mindset.' Instead, he believes that crypto serves as a general-purpose infrastructure upon which AI will be built.

Armstrong refers to the integration of blockchain and AI as Agentic Finance (AiFi). To bring this vision to life, Coinbase utilizes its internally developed x402 protocol, the Base blockchain, and the USDC stablecoin. The exchange has recently announced that Coinbase Business users can now receive payments from autonomous software programs.

However, industry representatives have highlighted technical hurdles facing this vision. io.net CEO Tory Green noted that AI agents need more than just money; they require a 'machine-speed' financial system. NeoSoul AI emphasizes security concerns, arguing that granting direct capital access to code without a history or reputation is risky.
