Coinbase's Armstrong Sees Regulatory Clarity in Either Outcome for US Crypto Bill
The US Senate's Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is set to go up for a procedural vote on September 15. The proposed legislation aims to establish a comprehensive federal regulatory structure governing crypto exchanges, brokerage services, and stablecoins.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong expressed confidence that cryptocurrency markets will achieve much-needed regulatory clarity regardless of the vote's outcome. He noted that both the SEC and CFTC have committed to releasing their own regulatory frameworks in case the bill fails.
The proposed legislation establishes a dual-regulator system for digital asset oversight, with tokens deemed securities falling under Securities and Exchange Commission jurisdiction, while decentralized commodities such as Bitcoin would be regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Armstrong stated that substantial support exists across party lines, including from law enforcement agencies, traditional financial institutions, and cryptocurrency firms.
