Coinbase's Forge Platform Revolutionizes Coding Workflows with Agentic AI
Coinbase's Forge platform has become a prime example of internal architectures in action. Initially known as Cloudbot and later Claudebot, Forge is now part of OpenSWE, an open-source coding agent framework that also includes systems from Stripe and Ramp.
Mux, one of the tools within Forge, allows individual engineers to run multiple AI agents in parallel, redefining workflows for the 21st century. According to Ry Walker, a software engineer who has briefed on the technology, Mux enables engineers to review each agent's progress as it finishes.
Chintan Turakhia, Head of Engineering at Coinbase, experimented with a two-week coding freeze in January, asking nearly 1000 engineers to stop using their Integrated Development Environments. This move aimed to automate workflows and gauge the impact on productivity.
