CoinEx Shuts Down Amid Crypto Market Weakness and Rising Regs
Crypto exchange CoinEx has announced plans to cease operations due to prolonged weakness in the cryptocurrency market and rising regulatory requirements. This move comes as Bitcoin, the world's largest cryptocurrency, has lingered near two-year lows of about $60,000 for months.
The exchange cited a contraction in overall trading volume and liquidity, as well as continuously rising regulatory requirements across major jurisdictions, as reasons for its decision to cease operations. CoinEx said it will gradually stop services from September 15, 2026, with withdrawal services remaining available until December 22.
Average daily bitcoin spot trading volume has fallen significantly in recent months, dropping to around $1.8 billion in August, according to ChainUp Investment. This is a near three-year low, suggesting participation has decreased substantially.
