CoinEx Shuts Down Exchange After Nine Years Amid Market Downturn
CoinEx has announced that it will be shutting down its cryptocurrency exchange business after nine years of operation. The platform, which launched in December 2017, plans to close on December 22, 2026. In a statement on social media platform X, the company blamed the prolonged market downturn, shrinking trading volume, and tougher regulations for driving up compliance costs and uncertainty.
Founder Haipo Yang admitted that CoinEx never became a top-tier exchange and that managing security and compliance risks had become too challenging. The wind-down process has already begun, with registrations and rewards closed off as of September 15, 2026.
The futures market switched to Reduce Only Mode on September 15, allowing users to close existing positions but not open new ones. Fiat, Margin, Loan, Earn, Staking, and Strategic trading features have also stopped accepting new requests. The platform is urging users to close their futures positions before the deadline.
CoinEx will allow spot trading until September 29, after which it will stop and any unexecuted orders will be canceled. Users are advised to withdraw their assets by December 22, 2026, as the company may sell non-USDT assets with resale value into USDT after that date.
