CoinSpot Founder Sues Ex-Employee Over Alleged Crypto Heist
Russell Wilson, a secretive Melbourne billionaire and founder of CoinSpot, is taking his former employee Iresh Pawan Perera to court for allegedly stealing $478,932 from the company's crypto exchange.
The case marks the second alleged fraud to hit CoinSpot after a $40 million heist in 2017. According to documents filed by Casey Block Services, CoinSpot's parent company, Perera made 76 transactions between 2023 and March 2026, shifting the funds into his personal bank account.
CoinSpot reported a net profit of $270 million in the 2025 financial year and paid out $251 million in dividends to shareholders. Wilson, who has amassed a $1.6 billion fortune according to the Financial Review Rich List, has maintained a low profile despite his wealth and influence.
