Coldcard Attack and Bitcoin On-Chain Surge: Mixed Signals for Investors
Bitcoin's on-chain activity has surged to multi-month highs, despite a security scare involving a vulnerability in Coldcard hardware wallets. According to K33 Research, transaction counts and active addresses have reached levels not seen since late 2024.
This increase in on-chain activity is often seen as a sign of growing demand, but analysts caution that it can also be driven by short-term speculation or large institutional transfers.
The Coldcard attack exploits a vulnerability in the device's firmware update process, potentially allowing an attacker with physical access to compromise the device and extract private keys. Coldcard has acknowledged the issue and released a firmware patch, advising users to update their devices immediately and only use official firmware sources.
