Coldcard Attacks Continue: New Wave Sweeps Over 448 BTC
A new wave of attacks on Coldcard users has been detected, with hundreds of transactions impacting potential victim addresses and moving 448.7 Bitcoin (BTC). According to Galaxy research head Alex Thorn, this is likely another wave of attacks targeting users' Bitcoin hardware wallets.
The activity averaged 13.8 sweeps per block, which is around 45 times the rate observed in a pre-incident control window. Most transfers have seen a fresh destination created for each victim rather than converging on a central collection wallet.
Thorn noted that some funds have already been swept into second-hop addresses, and affected users who control the relevant keys may be able to broadcast a conflicting transaction with a higher fee to move their funds to a secure wallet before the attacker's transaction is confirmed.
