Coldcard Firmware Update Requires Affected Users to Move Their Bitcoin
Coldcard has released new firmware versions 5.6.1 and 1.5.1Q after a three-week security review, addressing a flaw in how some versions of its firmware generated wallet seed phrases.
The company warned that users with affected seed phrases must create new wallets and move their Bitcoin, as the update does not repair existing seeds.
The new firmware adds mandatory user entropy to seed creation, requiring at least one source of randomness directly from the device owner through key presses, dice rolls, or coin flips.
