Coldcard Hack Leaves Stolen Bitcoin Worth $138.8M Unmoved
A massive Coldcard hardware wallet hack has left investigators struggling to track stolen funds. According to researchers, 1,789 BTC was stolen in the attack, worth $114.7 million at the time of theft and now valued at $138.8 million.
Of this total, a staggering 87.3% - or 1,561 BTC - remains unmoved in attacker-controlled addresses, allowing ongoing tracking. However, later stolen Bitcoin has been partially moved using methods like CoinJoin to obscure transactions.
Despite the challenges, investigators continue to share attacker addresses with exchanges and law enforcement to potentially freeze stolen funds if they are moved into centralized platforms.
