Coldcard Hackers Sit on $100 Million in Stolen Bitcoin
The recent Coldcard wallet vulnerability has led to significant losses for users, with an estimated total of over $100 million in stolen Bitcoin. The largest known attack involved approximately 1,159 BTC distributed across seven attacker-controlled addresses. However, most of the stolen cryptocurrency remains unmoved.
On-chain investigators have confirmed that the largest theft occurred within a short period of 41 minutes. Despite efforts to obscure the funds through mixers, the attacker could still face difficulties in converting such a large amount without attracting attention from exchanges and law enforcement agencies.
A separate attacker has been identified attempting to mix approximately 64 BTC using Wasabi Wallet's CoinJoin transactions. While this activity is distinct from the larger cluster holding 1,159 BTC, it highlights the complexity of blockchain investigations when mixers are involved.
