Coldcard Security Failure Leaves Users Vulnerable, $86 Million in BTC Swept
A recent security incident involving Coldcard, a hardware wallet manufacturer, has left users of the device vulnerable to potential theft. According to Anthony Pompliano, the issue is not a hack of Bitcoin's protocol but rather a failure of third-party technology.
The problem arose when certain Coldcard devices generated seeds with reduced entropy, making it easier for attackers to calculate recovery phrases and access user funds. As a result, at least 1,360 BTC have been swept from affected wallets, valued at over $86 million.
Pompliano warned that the incident could deepen fear in an already bearish market, where technical incidents can quickly amplify anxiety and misinformation. He cautioned against reducing the issue to a 'Bitcoin was hacked' narrative, emphasizing that Bitcoin's network remains secure.
