Coldcard Security Failure Sparks Fresh Case for US Spot Bitcoin ETFs

A recent security failure by Coldcard has strengthened the case for U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, according to Eric Balchunas, a senior ETF analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.

The incident involved three suspected attack waves draining an estimated $88.6 million worth of BTC from 4,585 addresses.

Balchunas noted that the Coldcard security failure highlights the risk associated with seed creation and management, which is eliminated when investing in a spot Bitcoin ETF.

The ETF structure transfers custody risk to institutions and contractual arrangements, rather than erasing it.
