Coldcard Users Face Suspected Fourth Wave of Attacks
Coldcard users are facing another potential attack wave, according to Galaxy Research head Alex Thorn. The suspected fourth wave is estimated to have moved 448.7 BTC from 709 wallets belonging to victims.
The analysis by Thorn identified addresses that matched the vulnerable wallet pattern and had unspent outputs and transactions that were similar to previous attacks. This suggests a possible connection between the new wave and previous incidents, which siphoned a total of 1,815.75 BTC across 5,294 addresses.
Coldcard users must generate new seeds after updating their firmware to address the RNG integration error that occurred in March 2021. Coinkite has released updated firmware versions for different Coldcard models, but simply upgrading does not fully resolve the issue.
