Coldcard Users Hit Hard by RNG Vulnerability: Mow Issues Urgent Guidance

Samson Mow, CEO of JAN3, has outlined five urgent steps for Coldcard users who have been affected by a recent random number generator (RNG) vulnerability. The incident has raised concerns about self-custody security and has left many users feeling vulnerable.

The first step is to document everything that can be recalled from memory, including wallet addresses, dates, firmware versions, transaction details, and any other relevant information. This will help create a detailed record of the incident and may be useful for law enforcement or insurance claims.

Mow also recommends filing a police report as soon as possible to create an official record of the theft. He suggests contacting cybercrime units, national reporting portals such as the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center, or specialized cryptocurrency crime task forces when available.

The third step is to watch for coordinated efforts to track movements of stolen funds. Mow emphasizes that preserving evidence and ignoring recovery scams are crucial at this stage. He warns against sharing personal details or seed phrases with anyone claiming they can retrieve stolen cryptocurrency.
