Coldcard Wallet Hack Escalates: Hacker Moves 45% of Stolen Bitcoin
The hacker behind the Coldcard wallet hack has escalated their activity, moving around 45% of the stolen Bitcoin. Galaxy Research reported that approximately $7.8 million worth of BTC has been spent from the impacted vaults. The attacker is employing various techniques to obscure the trail of the stolen funds, including CoinJoins and cross-chain swaps.
The hacker's strategy appears to be targeting the largest vaults first, with those containing more BTC being cleared out before smaller ones. Currently, only a small amount of the stolen money has been transferred to other wallets by the hacker.
Galaxy Research estimates that 82% of the stolen Bitcoins in the broader Coldcard hack is still in the original address controlled by the hacker. The total damage related to the Coldcard Wallet Hack might exceed previous expectations, with the value of the lost Bitcoin amounting to approximately $143.9 million at current rates.
