Coldcard Wallet Heist Exceeds $100M in Losses
Confirmed losses from the Coldcard wallet incident have exceeded $100 million following three major attack waves and 14 smaller incidents, according to Galaxy Research. The attacks targeted around 7,300 addresses, resulting in the theft of approximately 1,596 BTC.
Galaxy's research arm identified a suspected fourth wave that could bring total losses to 2,055 BTC, worth about $130 million. However, this estimate is not included in the confirmed tally as Galaxy has not yet received confirmation from victims believed to be part of this wave.
About 90% of the stolen Bitcoin remains unmoved, including funds attributed to the first three confirmed incidents. The research group shared attacker and victim addresses with US federal law enforcement, crypto exchanges, and cyber-investigation companies.
