Compound Foundation Unveils New Leadership Team and $52M Institutional Development Program
The Compound Foundation has announced significant changes to its leadership team and a $52 million development program aimed at institutional DeFi expansion. As of August 17, 2026, Aaron Schnarch, former CEO of Coinbase Custody, takes over as Executive Director. The new leadership team includes Christopher Donovan as Chief Operating Officer, Steven Liu as Chief Product Officer, and Leo Eikelman as Chief Technology Officer.
The $52 million development program is the largest in Compound's history and will focus on institutional credit onchain, including real-world asset integration for onchain credit products. The budget funds a product roadmap that includes improved capital efficiency features across lending markets, integration tooling for financial institutions to embed onchain lending directly into their own platforms, and the delivery of the first institutional-grade products in the coming weeks.
Compound has processed approximately $480 billion in deposits and borrowing volume since its 2018 launch, maintaining zero bad debt over that period. The new leadership team aims to build on this success by expanding Compound's reach into traditional finance institutions, which require compliance standards that current DeFi lending platform offerings often fall short of.
