Consensys Dives into Institutional Infrastructure, Sets Stage for MetaMask Expansion
Consensys Software Inc., the Ethereum-focused firm behind MetaMask, is reorganizing by separating its consumer-oriented business from its institutional blockchain infrastructure operations.
The company says this split will create two independent companies with distinct leadership and strategic priorities. By the end of 2026, Consensys will separate into a new entity focused on Ethereum protocols and institutional infrastructure, led by Mike Kriak as CEO and David Cunningham as president.
MetaMask, currently led by Joe Lubin, will remain a consumer-focused business centered on self-custody, with an emphasis on expanding beyond its original role as a wallet for decentralized applications. The company is expected to broaden into payments, savings, investing, and other traditional financial products.
