Consensys Splits into Two Entities: MetaMask to Lead Consumer Business
Ethereum software firm Consensys is breaking itself into two independent companies by the end of 2026. This separation will be between its consumer-facing MetaMask wallet and institutional blockchain infrastructure operations.
The existing legal entity, Consensys Software Inc., will rebrand as MetaMask. Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin will serve as chairman and CEO of the MetaMask company.
A newly formed company will take on the Consensys name. It will focus on helping banks, asset managers, and other financial institutions use blockchain technology for services such as tokenization, stablecoins, and onchain settlement.
