Consensys, the company behind MetaMask, will split into two independent companies by the end of 2026. The separation marks the end of a single-company structure that has been in place for over a decade. MetaMask will focus on consumer self-custodial finance, having already reached a milestone with over 100 million downloads across roughly 190 countries and facilitating trillions of dollars in cumulative transaction volume.

The split is expected to take place by the end of 2026, allowing Consensys to concentrate on Ethereum (ETH) protocols and institutional infrastructure. The reorganization will enable both companies to pursue their respective goals more effectively.
