Consensys Splits into Two: MetaMask Emerges as Independent Entity
Consensys Software Inc., a leading player in the crypto space, has announced its split into two independent companies. The move is aimed at allowing each entity to focus on its specific clientele and market needs.
The parent company, Consensys Software Inc., will be renamed MetaMask and led by Joe Lubin. MetaMask is an application used by tens of millions of people to manage their digital assets without a custodian intermediary.
Protocols and institutional infrastructure, including Linea, Besu, and services for institutions, will join a new Consensys company, led by Mike Kriak and David Cunningham.
The separation is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. While speculation suggests an initial public offering (IPO) in 2027, no official announcement has been made regarding this move.
