Consensys Splits into Two, MetaMask Wallet to Stay Independent
Consensys Software Inc. is separating into two companies by the end of 2026, with one entity rebranding as MetaMask and the other retaining the Consensys name.
The existing corporate entity will continue and rebrand as MetaMask, running the wallet and its consumer products under co-founder Joe Lubin as chairman and chief executive.
MetaMask will keep the wallet, Money Account, and consumer business, while the new Consensys entity will focus on institutional blockchain infrastructure, including Linea, Besu, and the Teku consensus client.
