Consensys Splits Operations, Creating Separate Entities for Consumer and Institutional Crypto Services
Consensys has announced a major restructuring of its operations, separating its consumer wallet business from institutional infrastructure services. The move will create two independent companies targeting different phases of cryptocurrency adoption.
META MASK, formerly Consensys Software Inc., will lead consumer finance, expanding beyond wallet services into traditional financial products while maintaining its Ethereum focus. With over 100 million downloads across 190 countries, the platform's reach could support a wide range of financial services, including stablecoin spending, trading, and yield features through its Money Account.
On the other hand, Consensys will retain Linea and develop Ethereum infrastructure, including Besu and Teku. The company will target institutions embracing tokenization, with Citi predicting that tokenized assets could reach $5.5 trillion to $8.2 trillion by 2030.
