Consensys Unveils Plans to Diversify into Institutional Blockchain Unit
Consensys Software Inc., the Ethereum-focused firm behind MetaMask, is reorganizing its operations by splitting into two independent companies.
The consumer-oriented business will be separated from the institutional blockchain infrastructure operations, with the goal of completing this restructuring by the end of 2026.
Mike Kriak will lead the new Consensys as CEO, while David Cunningham will serve as president. Meanwhile, Joe Lubin will remain chairman and CEO of MetaMask, taking on an executive chairman role at the new Consensys.
MetaMask has seen significant growth, surpassing 100 million downloads across approximately 190 countries and supporting trillions of dollars in transaction volume. The company is expanding beyond its original wallet function to include payments, savings, investing, and other traditional financial products.
