Core DAO Emergency Hard Fork Underway After Excess Validator Rewards Incident
Core DAO is dealing with an incident where a small group of validators obtained CORE rewards above the blockchain's intended issuance. This has led several exchanges to restrict token transfers.
The issue was first identified on August 31, and Core said it had contained the problem by September 1. The network is now coordinating an emergency hard fork with its validator set to deploy a permanent fix. This will be a forward upgrade, not a rollback, which means previously confirmed transactions will remain unchanged.
Exchanges such as Coinbase, Bithumb, and Coinone have restricted CORE transfers due to security concerns surrounding the network. Core has maintained that user assets are safe and that the problem involved the issuance of validator rewards.
