Core DAO Enacts Emergency Hard Fork After Validators Claim Excess Rewards
Core DAO is coordinating an emergency hard fork after validators claimed excess rewards on its blockchain. The incident, which has been contained, saw a small number of malicious validators accrue significantly more CORE rewards than intended.
The validators' actions were restricted by Core, and the company stated that no user assets are at risk. However, several exchanges did restrict CORE transfers during the incident, including Coinbase, Bithumb, Coinone, Bitget, and LBank.
Core has not disclosed how much CORE was issued or for how long the activity continued, nor has it explained the vulnerability that enabled the validators to obtain the rewards. A technical postmortem will be published by the company.
