Core DAO Network Hit by Transfer Freeze, Emergency Hard Fork Imminent
The Core DAO network has been affected by a transfer freeze and an emergency hard fork. The incident occurred on August 31, 2026, when a small number of validators accumulated block rewards well above the issuance provided for in the protocol.
Coinbase paused deposits and withdrawals on the Core DAO network on August 30, at 4:41 UTC, and several other trading venues have followed suit. The project itself has stated that the matter has been contained, and the validators concerned can no longer draw excess rewards.
A public interface query of the Core mainnet showed that two addresses entered block production on August 28 and left it on August 31. However, this does not confirm their involvement in the incident, as validator sets change for everyday reasons.
