Core Lightning Issues Emergency Update for Vulnerabilities
Core Lightning, a software implementation of the Lightning network, has released an emergency update to address several confirmed security vulnerabilities. The update, version 26.06.7, is available as of August 28, 2026, and users are urged to upgrade or restart their nodes with the --offline switch to mitigate potential attacks.
The vulnerabilities were identified through AI-generated reports, which were first publicly reported on August 23, according to some sources. However, the exact timeline is disputed, with CryptoSlate citing August 13 as the arrival of the first AI-generated reports.
No losses have been reported so far, but users are advised not to shut down their nodes, as this would only exacerbate the problem. Instead, restarting with the --offline switch will block connections and close the attack path.
