Core Scientific and AMD Unveil $2.5 GW AI Data Center Ambitions
Core Scientific has made a massive play for the future of data centers and artificial intelligence. The company, which emerged from bankruptcy just two years ago after struggling during the crypto winter, has partnered with AMD to create a 500 MW AI data center starting in 2027, with room to scale up to 2.5 gigawatts.
This deal is not just about leasing space; AMD and Core Scientific will collaborate on infrastructure design optimized for AMD's Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, and the ROCm software platform.
The partnership comes as no surprise, given the growth of Core Scientific's colocation business. In Q2 2026, its colocation revenue reached $136.7 million, nearly doubling the $77.5 million it posted in Q1 2026. This represents roughly 77% of the company's total revenue.
AMD received warrants for up to 30 million shares of CORZ stock at an exercise price of $23.47 per share as part of the deal, but these only vest based on actual megawatts contracted.
