Coreum Bridge Exploited, $200K Worth of XRP Stolen in August Hack
A cross-chain bridge connecting the Coreum network to the XRP Ledger was exploited on August 9, resulting in the theft of approximately 199,916 XRP.
The attack targeted a vulnerability in the bridge's deposit verification system and did not breach the XRP Ledger itself or compromise any private keys.
The attacker tricked the system into recognizing fake deposits as legitimate, triggering the release of XRP from the bridge's reserves. On-chain data indicates 94 abnormal withdrawals were made during the attack.
The Coreum Development Foundation has not yet released an official incident report or a timeline for restoration. The Coreum bridge is currently offline as a precautionary measure.
