Corporate Bitcoin Playbook Shifts as Strategy Sells Massive Stake
Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, made history in early July 2026 by selling approximately 3,588 Bitcoin for around $216 million. This marked the largest single Bitcoin liquidation in the company's history.
The sale was notable not only because of its size but also because it was executed without any significant market impact. As Michael Saylor and his team at Strategy have been vocal proponents of holding onto their entire Bitcoin stash, the move caught many off guard.
Dylan LeClair, Director of Bitcoin Strategy at Metaplanet, pointed out that Strategy's sale was particularly remarkable because it did not involve issuing new shares or suspending dividends. The company has maintained its dividend payments and equity issuance remains unchanged.
The sale brings Strategy's total Bitcoin holdings down to approximately 843,775 BTC. Following the sale, there were no new purchases reported in the week that followed.
