Cosmos EVM Module Vulnerability Exposed in String of Attacks on Three Blockchains
A recent wave of attacks on three blockchains - Mantra, TAC, and KiiChain - has left the cryptocurrency community on high alert. The issue stems from a vulnerability in the shared Cosmos EVM module, which allowed attackers to exploit a combination of defects in the staking precompilation function.
Cosmos Labs, the team behind the affected module, has urged all networks using a Cosmos EVM version less than v0.6.2 or v0.7.2 to immediately halt block production and update their software with patches from those releases.
The attacks targeted Mantra between August 20-22, resulting in losses of around $1.61 million. Mantra has since resumed operations after an update, while TAC and KiiChain remain halted.
