Cosmostation Shuts Down Wallet Services Amid Ecosystem Turmoil
Cosmostation, a long-standing cryptocurrency wallet in the Cosmos ecosystem, is preparing to shut down its services. The wallet provider has announced that its functionality will be gradually discontinued, with major features disappearing from September 1.
The shutdown affects Cosmostation's applications across iOS, Android, and its Chrome extension. While the wallet will retain essential recovery functions, including seed phrase and private key exports, other features will be phased out before the application itself is ultimately discontinued.
Cosmostation has supported a wide range of Cosmos-based networks and has provided users with tools for storing tokens, transferring assets, staking, governance participation, and interacting with decentralized applications. The Chrome extension is described as a non-custodial, multi-chain wallet supporting more than 80 networks, including Cosmos SDK and EVM-compatible chains.
Users are advised to prepare for the transition by securing their recovery credentials before the application's functionality is reduced. The shutdown of multiple major wallets in a relatively short period has sparked questions about the business environment for cryptocurrency wallet providers, with building and maintaining a multi-chain wallet requiring significant technical resources.
