Coupang, Woori Bank Complete Stablecoin Test for Real-Time Merchant Settlements

Share

Coupang and Woori Bank have completed a technical verification test using a won-denominated stablecoin for real-time merchant settlements in South Korea's food delivery market.

The test, which implemented a process where Coupang Eats order payments were transferred to merchants' electronic wallets through stablecoins, bypassed traditional settlement delays of one to two business days. This approach enables both Coupang and its merchants to access funds almost instantly, improving cash flow for small and medium-sized restaurant partners.

The test is among the first in South Korea to demonstrate a practical use case for stablecoins in commercial payments. It signals growing interest from major financial institutions and tech companies in blockchain-based settlement systems that integrate with existing banking infrastructure.
