CPI Report Looms as Potential Catalyst for Bitcoin Price Action
The cryptocurrency market is bracing for another potential price swing as the US Bureau of Labor Statistics prepares to release its Consumer Price Index (CPI) data on August 12.
Bitcoin (BTC) surged past $65,000 over the weekend but quickly dropped back down to around $63,250 after a brief rally. Analysts are now warning that the upcoming CPI report could trigger another massive move in BTC's price.
Peter Gerla on X noted that each CPI report from August 2025 until now has been a precursor to heightened volatility and even double-digit price declines for BTC.
On the other hand, some analysts believe that a high CPI reading could spark a renewed rally in Bitcoin. Ali Martinez predicts one last drop below $57,500 followed by a massive rally to as high as $180,000 sometime next year, while Ted thinks BTC has a decent chance of pumping as long as it stays above the crucial $63,000 level.
The CPI report will likely cause short-term turbulence in the markets, but its impact on Bitcoin's longer-term outlook remains uncertain. Only time will tell if this event marks the beginning of a new trend or just another brief correction in an ongoing bear market.
