Cramer's Quantum Exit: Is Bitcoin at Risk?
Jim Cramer, host of CNBC's Mad Money, has revealed that he is selling his Bitcoin due to concerns about the 'quantum threat'. He believes that powerful quantum computers will soon be able to crack Bitcoin's cryptography, leading to significant losses for investors. However, experts argue that this threat is overblown and that the development community is working on updating Bitcoin's cryptography to prevent such a scenario.
The so-called 'quantum threat' has been discussed in the crypto space for nearly a decade, with some predictions suggesting that up to one-third of all Bitcoin could be at risk. IBM CEO Arvind Krishna's comments on quantum computers and the quantum threat likely contributed to Cramer's decision to sell his Bitcoin.
Despite the concerns, many investors remain bullish on Bitcoin, citing the fact that today's computers are not powerful enough to break its encryption. Additionally, a consortium of firms led by Coinbase Global and Strategy has pledged over $15 million to boost Bitcoin's cryptography and protect the blockchain from quantum threats.
