Cronos Blockchain Halted After Tectonic DeFi Exploit Causes Estimated $66, $75 Million in Losses
The Cronos blockchain halted block production on August 30, 2026, after an exploit targeted the Tectonic DeFi lending protocol. The attack involved manipulating the TONIC token as collateral and resulted in an estimated $66, $75 million loss in assets.
Most of the stolen assets remain trapped on-chain, with only $6 million moved to Ethereum. Cronos confirmed that user funds on the Crypto.com exchange and app were unaffected by the incident.
The price of CRO/USD dropped 10.31% following the exploit, trading below the 200-day moving average at $0.06528. Momentum indicators show a constructive bias, with RSI at 62 (Buy) and MACD, ADX, and CCI all signaling Buy.
However, the Stochastic RSI is in overbought territory at 81, suggesting caution. The price has retreated to $0.05532, near the daily low, with volatility at 2.89% highlighting ongoing downward pressure following a downside gap at the open.
